Where is Chulo located?
Chulo is at 6400 Derry St, Harrisburg, PA. Dine in, pick up, or order delivery from this site.
What does “Chulo” mean?
A chulo (चुलो) is the traditional clay or mud cookstove at the centre of a Nepali home — the hearth that rice, tea and every curry comes off. We named the restaurant after it because that is what we are trying to put on the plate: the food as it is cooked at home, over fire, not assembled from a steam tray.
What are Chulo’s hours?
We are open Tuesday through Sunday and closed on Mondays. The site shows a live open/closed indicator, and online ordering follows exactly the same schedule — if the kitchen is closed, checkout tells you when we reopen instead of taking your money.
Do you deliver, and what areas do you cover?
Yes — our own drivers, no third-party app and no commission on top of your food. We deliver to ZIP codes 17111, 17109, 17104, 17103, 17102, 17101, 17110, 17113, 17112, 17034 around Harrisburg. Delivery is $3.99 and free on orders over $30.
How long does delivery take?
Standard delivery runs about 30–60 min. Priority delivery is 20–45 min for a small rush fee, selectable at checkout. Pickup orders are usually ready in about 20 minutes.
What is a momo?
A momo is a hand-pleated Himalayan dumpling — seasoned filling wrapped in a thin wheat wrapper, then steamed, pan-fried or deep-fried. It is the national comfort food of Nepal. We pleat every one in house and serve them five ways: steamed, kothey (half-steamed then pan-seared), deep-fried, jhol and chili, in chicken, pork and vegetable.
What is jhol momo?
Jhol means broth. Steamed momos are served sitting in a warm, nutty sesame-tomato jhol you drink straight from the bowl once the dumplings are gone. It is the single most-ordered thing on any Kathmandu momo menu, and the dish to order if you have only ever had a plain steamed momo.
What is sekuwa?
Sekuwa is Nepali grilled meat — marinated in mustard oil, ginger, garlic and timur (Sichuan-style Himalayan pepper), then skewered and cooked over open flame until the edges char. It is roadside-stall food in Nepal, eaten with sliced raw onion and lemon. We do chicken, pork and lamb, in their own Grill & BBQ section.
Do you have vegetarian and vegan options?
Plenty, and they are not an afterthought — daal is the everyday centre of a Nepali plate, not a side. Veg momos steamed, fried and in jhol, samosa, pakoda, pani puri, chatpate, sel roti, veg thali, veg biryani, paneer makhani, veg fried rice, veg thukpa and vegetable chow mein are all on the menu. Several are vegan or can be made vegan — ask when you order and we will tell you honestly which ones.
Is Chulo Nepali or Indian food?
Mostly Nepali, and unapologetically so — momos, thukpa, sekuwa off the flame, choila, samay baji, dal bhat and thali, and khasi ko masu goat curry cooked with mustard oil and timur rather than cream. The Indian side is deliberately short: biryani in three proteins, paneer makhani, and the samosa-and-chaat end of the appetizers. If you came looking for a long tandoori menu, this is not that restaurant.
How spicy is the food?
We cook to order, and every dish has a spice selector — no heat, mild, medium or hot — right on the item when you add it to your cart. Paneer makhani and the thukpa are mild by default; the chili momo and the hot wings are the ones with real heat.
Can I book a table?
Yes. Request a table on this site and we will confirm it by phone or email. Walk-ins are always welcome too.
How do I order online for pickup or delivery?
Browse the menu on this site, add items to your cart, and check out — you pay the restaurant directly by card. You get an order confirmation by email and we start cooking as soon as it comes through. No app download, and no third-party commission taken out of the kitchen.
